Fight for the soul of FDC

The FDC Party held a hotly contested election in November 2017, where Patrick Amuriyat O'Boy won the party presidency. In September 2018, General Mugisha Muntu and his supporters left the party due to ideological differences with the new leadership. The Amuriyat camp pushed for conventional confrontational approaches to change, while Muntu believed in strengthening party structures for mobilization. Nandale Maffavi, who Mugisha Muntu had defeated for the party presidency in 2012, was the frontline campaigner of Amuriyat.
